Enrollment and Screening Project
General Objective of the Project
To develop a breast cancer registration and screening program meeting the requirements of the country that can be applied on a national level.
Rationale of the Project
As in the world, breast cancer is the most common cancer observed in women in Turkey with a rate of 24.1 percent. Despite such a high rate, it is impossible to provide robust statistics since the registration and screening programs are not yet systematically conducted in our country. Despite the presence of data obtained upon referral of volunteers to the health institutions or the cross-sectional data that could only be achieved for once, a population-based breast health screening program with a long-term follow-up has not been implemented so far in Turkey. However, the size and extent of the issues related with breast health in our country can be demonstrated with healthy statistics; special programs specific for our country and meeting our own conditions can be designed and conducted for resolution of this health issue, thus facilitating early diagnosis and reducing the mortality rates.
